Statement on the death of Archbishop John R. Quinn, Emeritus Archbishop of San Francisco

Following is a statement from Archbishop José H. Gomez on the death Archbishop John R. Quinn:

On behalf of my brother Bishops and the entire family of God here in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, I extend heart-felt prayers of condolence to Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone and the faithful of the Archdiocese of San Francisco upon the passing of retired Archbishop John R. Quinn.

Archbishop Quinn was a leader of the Church in the United States for many years, serving as Archbishop of San Francisco from 1977 to 1995 and as president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops from 1977 to 1980.

Let us thank God for his service and his love. I entrust him to the loving arms of our Blessed Mother Mary and I pray that our merciful God grant him peace.
