Mary, Mother of the Church 2020 Celebration

On March 3, 2018, Pope Francis established the Feast of the “Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church,” which is celebrated on Pentecost Monday. The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels has commemorated the feast since its inception with a special Mass for Catholic school students, where thousands of students participate in the Mass, venerating the Virgin Mary with prayer, song and flowers, and two students would crown a statue of Mary as is traditionally done in her honor. While the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented our students from personally attending the service this year, we thank you for joining us virtually for this special Marian liturgy. While physical distance may separate us, the power of prayer has the divine capacity to unite as one family of faith.
