Reverend Monsignor Kevin John Larkin died Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was 89 years old.
Msgr. Larkin was born on December 27, 1934, in Cork City, Co. Cork, to Daniel and Mary Larkin (nee O’Riley). He is the eldest of his four siblings. Msgr. Larkin is survived by his brother Denis (Margaret), Father Barry (Suncroft Parish, Co. Kildare), Anne (Niall), and Joan (John).
Msgr. Larkin attended St. Mary’s College Knockbeg, Carlow. Upon graduating, he entered St. Patrick’s Seminary in Carlow, Co. Carlow.
Msgr. Larkin was ordained on June 13, 1959, in the Cathedral of the Assumption in Carlow by Bishop Thomas Keogh, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
During his 65 years as a priest Msgr. Larkin ministered at these parishes:
- St. Anne, Santa Ana
- Holy Family, Glendale
- St. Polycarp, Stanton
- St. Philip Neri, Lynwood
- St. Genevieve, Panorama City
- St. Julie Billiart, Newbury Park
- St. Joseph, Long Beach
- Our Lady of Lourdes, Tujunga
Msgr. Larkin was Pastor of St. Francis de Sales from April 19, 1981 to June 30, 2009. He was created Chaplain to His Holiness on April 10, 2017, with the title of Reverend Monsignor, and named Pastor Emeritus of St. Francis de Sales Church from July 1, 2009 to August 17, 2024.
The viewing for Msgr. Larkin will open at 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, September 10. The rosary will begin at 6:30 pm.
His funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday morning, September 11, at 10:00.
The viewing, rosary, and funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church at the corner of Moorpark St. and Dixie Canyon Ave. in Sherman Oaks. Burial will be at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.
