Deacon Peter K. Chu died Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
Peter Chu was born in Mainland China, on May 6, 1943, and subsequently moved with his family to Taiwan 1949. Peter attended the National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, and received a B.S. in Applied Mathematics. He met his future wife, Teresa, in 1969 while they were both ministering for the Jesuit sponsored “Christian Life Community” of Shu-Te, and were married on December 25, 1971.
Peter and Teresa came to the Los Angeles area with their son Francis in 1985. They immediately started serving at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Rowland Heights, starting a new Chinese Bible Study, and organizing a first Sunday of the month Chinese Mass under the guidance and leadership of Fr. James Liu, an associate pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Peter also served as president of the Chinese “Cursillo in Christianity” of Southern California, and the Chinese Catholic Association of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Peter was employed by IBM and retired in 2002 as an Advisory Service Specialist.
Peter and Teresa entered diaconate formation in 1994, and Peter was ordained on June 12, 1999. After ordination, Deacon Peter was assigned to serve in his parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Rowland Heights, CA. Deacon Peter and Teresa continued to strongly serve in parish ministries and the Chinese Catholic community.
Deacon Peter is survived by his wife of 52 years, Teresa, and their son, Francis.
Eternal rest grant unto Peter, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
