The St. Bonaventure Seraphs had only allowed one run throughout the playoffs. They kept it that way as they shut out Garden Grove 8-0 for their second straight CIF softball title.

The main reason for their successes is Cielo Mesa, who masterfully pitched a 3-hit, complete game shutout on Saturday. Mesa ended the day with 8 strikeouts, bringing her five game playoff total to 83.

The Seraphs jumped out early, thanks to RBIs from Angelina Flores and Kayla Garcia. They increased their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth, which put them in the driver’s seat the rest of the game.

But the Seraphs weren’t done scoring. In the top of the seventh, Kayla Garcia belted a two-run home run to put St. Bonaventure up 8-0. Garcia finished 3 for 4.

Garden Grove scraped two hits in the bottom of the seventh, but Mesa shut down the next two hitters, closing the game for the Seraphs.

Jessica Gomez went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

This is St. Bonaventure’s second consecutive CIF-SS Division 5 title.
