Sr. Noreen Patrice Arnold, CSJFuneral Mass was held Aug. 11 for Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet Noreen Patrice Arnold, 78, who died Aug. 6. She had been a Sister of St. Joseph for 59 years.Born and raised in San Diego, she attended the Academy of Our Lady of Peace and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1951 following graduation. Her teaching ministry began in Concord and continued in San Diego, Orinda and Encino. She later enrolled in a graduate program at Cal State University, Northridge, where she attained a master’s degree in supervision and administration.During the following years, Sister Arnold ministered locally in Canoga Park at St. Joseph the Worker and Our Lady of the Valley parishes. In 1989, she was invited to cooperate in the creation of a sixth grade program at Chaminade Middle School. She ministered there for 21 years: first as sixth grade teacher, then as director of the RCIA program and finally as sixth grade counselor.During these years, she also served as regional superior for the sisters in the Valley and Santa Barbara coast. Her listening skills, calm demeanor and effective decision making were much appreciated by her community members. Survivors include her sister, Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet Patricia Arnold, and many nieces and nephews. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery.Deacon Ralph FryFuneral Mass will be celebrated Aug. 26, 10 a.m., at St. Thomas More Church, Irvine, for 94-year-old retired Deacon Ralph Fry, ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1982, who died Aug. 18. Family survivors include his son, Father John Janze, pastor at St. Thomas More. A reception will be hosted in the parish center following the Mass. Burial will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights. Marjorie Marren DayFuneral services were held recently for Marjorie Marren Day, who died July 19 in Apple Valley. An active volunteer for Southern California organizations, including the Los Angeles Crippled Children’s Society, she taught CCD to elementary and junior and senior high school students at St. Cyril of Jerusalem in Encino in the 1970s. Day was a special education teacher at Serrania Avenue and Kester Avenue Elementary Schools in the 1980s, retiring from the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1989. Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joseph Day, she is survived by her children Kenneth Day of Hesperia and Marjorie A. Day of Valley Springs, and her grandson Joseph Day of Apple Valley.
