On the evening before the papal conclave began in the Sistine Chapel, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles hosted an all-night prayer vigil for the election of the next pope.“This is a historic moment for our Church,” said Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik, Cathedral pastor. “As Catholics, we pray for the Holy Spirit to guide the cardinal electors as they select our next pope.”The vigil began March 11 at 7 p.m. with the solemn exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the main altar. Every hour throughout the night, there was the recitation of the Rosary and other prayers for the election of a successor for Pope Benedict XVI. The vigil concluded at 7 a.m. March 12 with a special Votive Mass for the Election of a Pope.{gallery width=100 height=100}gallery/2013/0315/vigil/{/gallery}
