One year after becoming a co-ed high school, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey has achieved a record number of students registered for the 2014-2015 school year, and received its highest-ever amount of enrollment applications, leading to an admission wait-list for the first time in the school’s history.
A total of 307 students are currently registered in grades 9-12 at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy. The school received a record-high 200 new student applications, of which 191 were accepted for the upcoming school year.
Among the incoming ninth graders, 13 students have been selected to receive the Onward Scholars scholarship, a scholarship program that is only offered at St. Pius X-St. Matthias and pays 75 percent of a participating student’s tuition during all four years of their high school education.
Student enrollment isn’t the only thing that’s growing at St. Pius X-St. Matthias. This year the school is welcoming five new additional teachers to help keep up with the increasing student body. They will teach Spanish, chemistry, geometry and theology classes.
