Four Salvadoran bishops will travel to the U.S. in hopes of resolving the situation of more than 200,000 Salvadoran immigrants previously protected under the U.S. Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation.

The White House announced on Jan. 1 that it would not be renewing TPS. Immigrants protected under the program now have until September 2019 to return home or face deportation.

“As pastors of this people, we commit ourselves to accompany them in the struggle for their legitimate rights and, if necessary, we offer our support to those who might be forced to return home,” the bishops said in a statement.
