St. Dominic Savio Parish in Bellflower will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday on April 3 at 3 p.m.
The Divine Mercy Chaplet will begin the service, followed by Mass with Father Chinh Nguyen as celebrant. A community reception will conclude the event. The parish is the site for the Divine Mercy pilgrimage in the San Pedro Region during the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.
The Feast, which falls on the Octave of Easter, is the culmination of the Divine Mercy Novena that begins on Good Friday. During the novena, participants pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, a prayer Christ gave to St. Faustina Kowalska during an apparition. The Polish nun documented the series of visitations in her diary, which became a bestseller.
John Paul II was a strong advocate for devotion to the Divine Mercy message. In 1997, at the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Cracow, Poland, he said, “There is nothing more man needs than Divine Mercy — that love which is benevolent, which is compassionate, which raises man above his weakness to the infinite heights, to the holiness of God.”
The event will be held at 13400 Bellflower Blvd., Bellflower. For more information, please contact the parish office at (562) 920-7769.
