On May 4, Loyola Marymount University announced the record setting news that six of their students had earned Fulbright grants for 2016 to 2017. This is the highest number the university has ever been awarded in a single year.
Selected from a group of 13 finalists, another record number for LMU, the students will have the opportunity to study and research while holding English teaching assistantships across the globe.
Alana Slavin, 21, of St. Louis will travel to the Netherlands; Ryan Beitz, 28, of Los Angeles will travel to Finland; Lauren Thurmond, 26, of Los Angeles will travel to Greece; Monique Mansour, 26, of Rancho Santa Margarita will travel to Malta; Jacob Coronel, 28, of Los Angeles will travel to Mexico; and Nina Lepp, 21, of Washington will travel to Poland.
The students represent a range of interests, schools and colleges at LMU, including the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, the School of Film and Television, the School of Education and the Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the nation’s largest student exchange program. It awards approximately 1,900 grants each year.
