Sacramento auxiliary bishop and St. John’s Seminary alumnus, Myron Joseph Cotta, has been named the new bishop of the Diocese of Stockton. Pope Francis appointed Bishop Cotta, 64, on Jan. 23 to replace Bishop Stephen Blaire, who has reached the 75-year-old mandatory retirement age. Bishop Blaire has served in Stockton since 1999.
