Earlier this month, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles received the news that Msgr. Alex Aclan, former vicar for clergy, had been named a new auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles by Pope Francis. Along with this announcement came the news that Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Brennan would be leaving the archdiocese to become the new bishop of the Diocese of Fresno.

On Monday, March 25, friends, family, and archdiocesan staff packed the pews at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels to say goodbye to Bishop Brennan, who has served the city since his appointment in 2015.

In his farewell homily, Bishop Brennan said that “the best job in the world is being an auxiliary bishop” with Archbishop Gomez. He told the congregation he would need their prayers for “strength, courage, and wisdom” to help him in his new role, before leading them in song.

Bishop Brennan will be installed in the Diocese of Fresno on Thursday, May 2.
