The four remaining Catholic school teams in the CIF-Southern Section post-season boys’ volleyball and boys’ tennis tournaments were defeated in their May 16 semifinal matches.
In volleyball, Loyola and La Salle HIgh Schools fell short in their quest for CIF-SS titles. Loyola (24-3) lost to Corona Del Mar in Division 1, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18, while La Salle (23-7) was beaten in its Division 4 match by San Gabriel Academy, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21.
In tennis, J.Serra (22-2) lost 13-5 to Fountain Valley in the Division 2 semifinals. And in Division 5, Bishop Montgomery (13-4) was edged by Milken Community, 74-67 in games won after the teams tied 9-9 in sets won.
