Three Catholic school teams advanced to the main draw of the CIF-Southern Section Girls’ Tennis Championships with wild-card victories Oct. 31.

In Division 4, St. Lucy’s (15-7) edged La Quinta/Westminster, and will play Magnolia, the Orange Coast league champion (16-1), in a Nov. 1 first-round match. Louisville (7-6-1) stopped Lakewood 11-7, and will play Downey, the San Gabriel Valley league co-champ (10-6).

In Division 5, La Salle (11-3) defeated Highland, 11-7, and will play Oak Hills (9-8). St. Joseph/Lakewood lost to Century, 16-2.

Other first round matches on Nov. 1 include:

Division 1: Santa Margarita (14-6) vs San Clemente (13-2); Mater Dei (10-8) vs Dana Hills (15-4); Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks (9-2) vs Oaks Christian (11-2).

Division 3: Chaminade (12-4) vs Cabrillo/Lompoc (13-3); Marymount (9-3) vs. Crescenta Valley (11-3); Mayfield (12-3) vs La Serna (15-1).

Division 4: Bishop Montgomery (12-1-1) vs wild-card winner North Torrance (6-9).

Division 5: St. Bonaventure (14-6) vs wild-card winner Apple Valley (10-5).

Second round matches are Nov. 3, quarterfinals Nov. 6, semifinals Nov. 8, and finals Nov. 10.

Boys’ Water Polo

In first-round matches of the Division 3 Boys’ Water Polo Championships Oct. 31, Servite downed Moorpark, 10-9. The Friars (17-10) will meet Costa Mesa (16-13) in the second round Nov. 2.

Other Catholic schools did not fare as well, as Righetti edged Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks, 14-13, in Division 3; Cerritos defeated J.Serra, 10-4, in D-4; and Chadwick defeated  Villanova Prep, 10-8, in D-5.

Divisions 1 and 2, with 16-team brackets, commence first-round play Nov. 2, In Division 1, top-ranked Mater Dei leads takes on Loyola, and Santa Margarita plays Newport Harbor. Damien meets Foothill in a D-2 match.

Quarterfinals in all divisions are Nov. 4, semifinals Nov. 8, and finals Nov. 11.
