St. Anthony of Long Beach has taken over the top spot in Division 6 of the latest weekly baseball rankings issued by the CIF-Southern Section.

The Saints are one of a dozen Catholic schools mentioned in the baseball top tens released March 11. Four are in Division 1: Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks (seventh), Servite (eighth), Mater Dei (ninth) and St. John Bosco (tenth).

Elsewhere, Loyola is fourth and Santa Margarita ninth in D-2; Mary Star of the Sea third and St. Paul seventh in D-4; Bishop Diego eighth in D-5; Santa Clara eighth in D-6; and Villanova tenth in D-7.

Catholic school rankings in other sports include the following:

Softball: Santa Margarita is sixth in D-1; Mary Star second and St. Anthony eighth in D-4; and Marymount sixth and Santa Clara seventh in D-6.

Boys’ volleyball: J. Serra is second in D-3. The combined Divisions 1 & 2 poll (with teams separated at playoff time in late April) includes Loyola fourth, Servite 13th, Mater Dei 14th and Santa Margarita 17th. St. Anthony is fifth in D-4, and Don Bosco Tech fourth in D-6.

Boys’ tennis: Santa Margarita is ninth in D-2, Mater Dei fourth in D-3, Bishop Montgomery sixth in D-4, and Bishop Amat fourth in D-5.

No polls are issued for track and field, swimming and diving, and boys’ golf. Regular season play continues through late April, followed by playoff action which concludes by early June.
