Eight Catholic school teams have advanced to the second round of the CIF-SS Softball Tournament after second round victories on May 22.

One game in the second round was an all-Catholic affair: In Division 5, Chaminade blanked Aquinas 9-0.

Quarterfinals are May 24, followed by semifinals May 29, and finals June 1 and 2 at Deanna Manning Stadium, Irvine. The second round results:

Division 1: Norco d. Santa Margarita 2-1; Mater Dei d. Mission Viejo 9-5. Quarterfinals: Mater Dei vs. Gahr.

Division 3: Patriot d. Alemany 14-2; St. Paul d. Palm Desert 6-3. Quarterfinals: St. Paul vs. West Torrance.

Division 5: El Segundo d. La Reina 4-1; Chaminade d. Aquinas 9-0; St. Joseph/Santa Maria d. Santa Paula 9-0; Templeton d. Pomona Catholic 1-0. Quarterfinals: Chaminade vs. La Canada; St. Joseph/Santa Maria vs. Culver City.

Division 6: Mary Star d. Calvary Chapel/Santa Ana 3-1; Moreno Valley d. Mayfield 11-7. Quarterfinals: Mary Star vs. Rancho Mirage.

Division 7: Marymount d. Westminster 2-1; San Gabriel Mission d. Flintridge Prep 13-4; Serra d. Mesa Grande Academy 17-0; Costa Mesa d. St. Mary’s Academy 18-1. Quarterfinals: Marymount vs. Hawthorne MSA; San Gabriel Mission vs. Costa Mesa; Serra vs. Campbell Hall.
