The Lions (22-0-3), who on Feb. 23 beat Los Alamitos 3-1 to win their third straight CIF-SS Division 1 title, were even more dominant on a cool, wet evening in San Juan Capistrano. Last year, J.Serra lost in the Regional D-I finals, 1-0 to Upland.

In a match pitting the top two seeds in Division IV, La Salle (19-6) came up just short in its bid for the D-IV girls’ title, losing 2-1 to St. Margaret’s. The contest matched the combatants in the CIF-SS D-4 final on Feb. 23, won by La Salle in a 4-2 shootout.

In boys’ soccer, third-seeded Cathedral was beaten by top-seeded San Clemente in the Division I final, a result echoing the Tritons’ 1-0 win over the Phantoms in the CIF-SS D-1 final Feb. 23. Cathedral (23-4-2) had beaten San Clemente 2-1 in a tournament match last December.
