Anna Dong of St. Joseph (Lakewood) recorded the best score in the Southern California Golf Association Girls Individual Championship, held Nov. 2 at River Ridge Golf Club (Lakes Course) in Oxnard.

Dong, a senior and among the top junior golfers in Southern California, posted a 67, while juniors Khameryn Utu of Mater Dei (71) and Chayse Gomez of Rosary Academy (72) also finished in the top 10. The top 36 individual finishers advance to the CIF-SCGA Foundation Girls Golf Championship on Nov. 9 at Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside.

In the team event, Mater Dei finished fourth to reach the team championship event on Nov. 9 at Canyon Crest. The Monarchs tied with Westlake at 384 (five shots behind winner Walnut), but advanced on the basis of a better sixth-person score. (In the team event, the five best scores determine a six-person team’s final score, with the sixth used to break a tie.)

The state championship will be held Nov. 14 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
