The Loyola Marymount men’s water polo team won two of its three matches at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament at Santa Clara University Oct. 25 and 26, defeating Brown and Bucknell but losing to Princeton. The results:

Oct. 25 vs. Brown: With WWPA player of the week Blazo Mitrovic scoring five goals, the 11th-ranked Lions edged No. 19 Brown 12-11, breaking open a tight game with six third-period goals and then hanging on. Jonny Rimlinger’s fourth-quarter goal, his third of the match, was the decider, as Alexandros Athymaritis also scored three times and Daniel Roth scored once for LMU.

Oct. 26 vs. Bucknell: Mitrovic’s sixth goal of the game (and fourth of the final period) with 24 seconds remaining was the difference in LMU’s 14-13 win over the 15th-ranked Bisons. Athymaritis scored four goals, David Carrasco two and Roth and Austin Clark one apiece.

Oct. 26 vs. Princeton: Three goals in the final four and a half minutes pulled the Tigers from behind to defeat the Lions 14-12, evening the head-to-head score after LMU beat Princeton 15-13 a few weeks earlier. Carrasco and Rimlinger each scored three goals for the Lions, who trailed 9-6 before rallying to tie and then lead 12-11 until Princeton’s final surge. Mitrovic tallied twice, and Athymaritis, Clark, Matthew Knoedler and Joseph Cavazos each scored once for the Lions.

This week: LMU (10-9, 3-1 in WWPA) returns to conference play this week, playing Cal Baptist on Oct. 31 in Riverside and coming home to Burns Center to play Concordia on Nov. 2 (11 a.m.).
