Loyola Marymount University women’s volleyball team split its matches in the Pacific Northwest last week, leaving the Lions in the middle of the West Coast Conference pack but still hopeful of post-season competition.

On Oct. 31, LMU overcame a slow start to defeat Portland 18-25, 25-16, 28-26, 25-21. Two kills by Savannah Slattery broke a 26-all tie in the third set and sent the Lions on to victory, as Slattery (Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks alum) totalled 25 kills and 14 digs for the match while Tess Reid had 53 assists, Ella Boehle (Notre Dame Academy) had 14 digs and Ella Knowlton had seven blocks.

But at Spokane two days later, LMU fell to Gonzaga 25-19, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25, dropping the Lions to 13-11 overall and 7-5 in the WCC. Slattery had 20 kills, Red 42 assists and Boehle 17 digs to lead LMU.

This week the Lions have one match, Nov. 8 at Pepperdine in Malibu, before their final home matches Nov. 14 and 16 against Pacific and St. Mary’s.
