Riley Elmes, a senior from Lake Oswego, Oregon, was selected as the No. 2 individual at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships’ Stanford Regional May 13-15, after tying for first in the 2019 West Coast Conference Championships.
It’s the second straight year Elmes has competed in the NCAA event, in which six 54-hole regional tournaments are held throughout the U.S., involving 81 teams and 45 individuals. At the recent WCC Championships in Stockton, Elmes survived a first-hole seven to storm back and tie for top honors at 6-under-par 210 (71-70-69), including a birdie on the final hole. He was selected to the All-WCC first team.
"He got a great regional and we couldn't be more excited to watch him push for that national bid," said LMU Coach Jason D’Amore.
LMU beach volleyball head coach John Mayer was named WCC Coach of the Year, Reka Orsi Toth was named WCC Freshman of the year, and eight other Lions were named to the All-WCC First, Second and Freshman Teams.
Mayer led LMU to its first beach volleyball conference championship this season. Since his arrival in 2015, Mayer has taken the Lions from a 4-11 record, to a 27-11 this season, including 9-2 in the WCC.
