Several Catholic schools that have led their respective sports’ divisional rankings for several weeks are still on top in the CIF-Southern Section polls released Jan. 28.
That list includes St. Bonaventure (girls’ basketball), Providence/Burbank and Santa Clara (boys’ basketball), Loyola (boys’ soccer) and J.Serra (girls’ soccer).
The Seraphs of St. Bonaventure continue to lead Division 3A, while the Belles of St. Mary’s remain No. 2 in D-2AA, the next best ranking among local Catholic girls’ teams, with Santa Margarita entering the 2AA poll in 11th.
In D-1, Bishop Montgomery, Mater Dei and Rosary still occupy the 4-6-7 slots, followed by Serra in eighth
and Chaminade 11th, each up one from last week. Other polls:
Providence (Division 4A) and Santa Clara (Division 5AA) each made it four weeks in a row leading their respective divisions in the CIF-SS boys’ basketball rankings.
In Division 1, Bishop Montgomery and Mater Dei are tied for fifth, St. John Bosco eighth, Damien ninth, Santa Margarita tenth, Loyola 11th and Crespi 16th. Elsewhere:
Loyola, Cathedral and Servite are once again listed 1-2-4 in Division 1 of the Jan. 28 rankings, with Mater Dei now sixth.
Several Catholic schools made headway, with Damien now tenth in D-4, Santa Clara fifth in D-6, and Paraclete third and Bishop Diego eighth in D-7.
J.Serra remains first in Division 1, with Santa Margarita tenth. Bishop Amat was ninth in D-2, Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks tenth in D-3, La Salle fifth in D-4, St. Genevieve third in D-5, Pomona Catholic third in D-6, and St. Bonaventure eighth and Ramona Convent ninth in D-7.
Villanova Prep is still second in Division 6 in the Jan. 28 poll. In the combined Divisions 1 & 2 poll, Mater Dei is eighth and Santa Margarita 11th, while in D-3 Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks is ninth.
