Four Catholic school teams won wild-card matches Nov. 5 to advance into the first round of the 2019 CIF-Southern Section girls’ tennis playoffs.

Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks, Mayfield, Villanova Prep and Immaculate Heart join seven other Catholic school teams in round one matches to be played Nov. 6. Second round matches are Nov. 8, quarterfinals Nov. 11, semifinals Nov. 13 and finals Nov. 15.

Wild-card results from Nov. 5:

D-3: Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks d. Windward 13-5; Mayfield d. St. Lucy’s 11-7.
D-4: Alhambra d. La Salle 14-4; Buckley d. Alemany 10-8.
D-5: Villanova Prep d. de Toledo 13-5; Immaculate Heart d. Ontario 86-73 in games won after tying 9-9 in sets.

First round matches on Nov. 6 include:

D-1: Santa Margarita at Troy; Chaminade at Camarillo; Mater Dei at Foothill/Santa Ana.
D-2: South Pasadena at J.Serra.
D-3: Ventura at Bishop Montgomery; Notre Dame/SO at Warren; Mayfield at Mayfair.
D-4: Torrance at Flintridge Sacred Heart.
D-5: St. Joseph/Lakewood at Vista del Lago; Villanova Prep at Edgewood; Immaculate Heart at Highland. 

Boys’ Water Polo

Top seeds J.Serra (D-4) and Crespi (D-6) posted easy first round victories Nov. 5 to advance in the CIF-SS boys’ water polo playoffs. 

Also earning second round berths on Nov. 7 were St. Francis (D-5) and Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks (D-3). First round results and second round matchups:

D-3: No. 5 Notre Dame/SO (15-7) beat Cerritos 12-4 and will play El Toro (20-9).
D-4: No. 1 J.Serra (23-5) beat Beaumont 12-3, and will play Yucaipa (18-12).
D-5: No. 2 St. Francis (26-3) beat Cathedral 20-7 and will play Buena Park (16-13).
D-6: No. 1 Crespi (17-11) beat Mark Keppel 14-4 and will play Fontana (14-6).

On Nov. 7, the eight-team D-1 bracket begins with quarterfinal play, including No. 3 Loyola (23-5) hosting No. 6 Santa Margarita (18-8), and No. 8 Mater Dei (13-3) at No. 1 Harvard-Westlake (25-2). In D-2, Damien (17-13) hosts No. 6 Mira Costa (18-10 in a first round match.
