High school polls: Loyola climbs into first in boys’ soccer

Loyola has taken over the top spot in Division 1 of the CIF-Southern Section boys’ soccer rankings, released Dec. 10.

The Cubs jumped from third a week ago to leapfrog Cathedral, still ranked second. Servite moved from sixth to third; Santa Margarita slipped from seventh to eighth; and Mater Dei is tied for tenth.

Elsewhere, Bishop Montgomery rose from ninth to eighth in D-4; Santa Clara remained sixth in D-6, with St. Anthony now tied for 10th; and Paraclete fell from third to seventh while St. Michael’s Prep climbed from tenth to eighth in D-7.

Girls’ soccer

J.Serra held on to the No. 1 ranking in Division 1, and La Salle took over No. 1 in Division 4, up from third last week.

Another big move came from St. Genevieve, soaring from ninth to third in D-5, with St. Anthony tenth. Other rankings have Santa Margarita fifth and Mater Dei tenth in D-1; Bishop Amat still ninth in D-2; Pomona Catholic ninth in D-6; and St. Monica Academy ninth in D-7. 

Girls’ water polo

The Dec. 10 poll shows Mater Dei fifth and Santa Margarita seventh in the combined Divisions 1 and 2 (to be separated at playoff time in February); Marymount tenth in D-5; and J.Serra ninth in D-6.
