Girls’ water polo: Santa Margarita reached D-2 final, 15-10

Santa Margarita’s girls’ water polo team will play for the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 title this weekend, after a 15-10 win over Schurr of Montebello in the Feb. 13 semifinals.

The Eagles (19-8), ranked No. 1 in Division 2, will meet San Clemente (16-13) in the championship match, set for 2:50 p.m. Feb. 16 at the William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine. Santa Margarita is seeking its fourth CIF-SS girls’ water polo title, having previously won the Division IV title in 2000 and D-2 titles in 2013 and 2014.

Tri-Valley League champion Villanova was defeated 6-4 by top-seeded Buena Park in the Division 6 semifinals.
