At least one Catholic school is guaranteed a quarterfinal berth in the CIF-Southern Section girls’ tennis playoffs.

Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks will play Mayfield in a Division 3 second round match Noiv. 8 after each won its first round matches on Nov. 6. Also advancing in the tournament with first round wins are Mater Dei (D-1), J.Serra (D-2), Bishop Montgomery (D-3), Flintridge Sacred Heart (D-4) and Immaculate Heart (D-5).

First round results from Nov. 6:

D-1: Troy beat Santa Margarita 14-4; Camarillo beat Chaminade 13-5; Mater Dei beat Foothill/Santa Ana 11-7, and will play M.L. King in the second round.

D-2: No. 8 J.Serra beat South Pasadena 14-4, and will play No. 9 Los Alamitos.

D-3: Bishop Montgomery beat Ventura 11-7, and will play No. 1 Portola; Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks beat Warren 18-0, and will play Mayfield, which beat Mayfair 10-8.

D-4: Flintridge Sacred Heart beat Torrance 80-78 in games (tied 9-9 in sets), and will play No. 5 Whitney.

D-5: Immaculate Heart beat Highland 14-4, and will play No. 7 Vista del Lago, which beat St. Joseph/Lakewood 12-6; Edgewood beat Villanova Prep 14-4. Quarterfinals are Nov. 11, semifinals Nov. 13 and finals Nov. 15.
