Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks defeated Poly of Riverside in a tight quarterfinal match Nov. 11 to reach the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 girls' tennis tournament.
The Knights (11-7) tied Poly 9-9 in sets won, but prevailed 76-66 in games won, to advance to the D-3 semis Nov. 13 against El Segundo (12-7). The winner will play No. 1 Portola or No. 4 Alta Loma in the finals Nov. 15.
Three other Catholic school teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals, although in Division 5 unseeded Immaculate Heart battled top-seeded Segerstrom to a 9-9 draw in sets won, but lost 84-80 in games. Also losing were Mater Dei, 11-7 to Camarillo (D-1), and J.Serra, 10-8 to top-seeded South Torrance (D-2)
