SanrnGabriel Mission High School’s Southern California Regional championship teamrndominated the 2018 All-CIF Southern Section first team selections in girls’rnsoccer.

Juniorrnforward Juliana Lopez was named Player of the Year, and Mission coach FranciscornLopez was named Coach of the Year, following a season in which the Pioneersrncaptured the SoCal Regional Division 5 title after winning a second straightrnCIF-SS championship — this year in D-6, after taking D-7 in 2017. Juliana, whornscored both goals in the Pioneers’ regional championship victory match, was arnrepeat first-team selection, while Coach Lopez garnered his second Coach of thernYear award.

JulianarnLopez was joined on the Division 6 first team by three teammates: seniorrnmidfielder Alyssa Lopez, also a 2017 first team choice, junior midfielderrnMelissa Estrada, the D-7 Player of the Year in 2017, and junior defender NadiahrnPalomares.

InrnDivision 1, junior forward Isabella D’Aquila of J.Serra received Player of thernYear honors for the second straight year, after leading the Lions to the CIF-SSrnD-1 title. J.Serra coach Greg Baker likewise repeated as Coach of the Year.

JoiningrnD'Aquila on the Division 1 first team were three of her sophomore teammates:rndefender Kendyll Fritts, midfielder Rachel Bastone and goalkeeper RyanrnCampbell. Santa Margarita had three selections: senior forward Mia Roth, seniorrngoalkeeper Kierstin Flint and junior defender Brianne Riley.

TwornCatholic seniors made the D-2 first team, forward Alexandra Jaquez of BishoprnAmat and midfielder Amethyst Trang of Flintridge Sacred Heart. The D-3 teamrnfeatured senior midfielder Malina Yago of Marymount and senior forward CarolynrnRichards of Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks), a first-team choice in 2017.

Seniorrnforward Erin Atkinson of Bishop Montgomery was a D-4 first team choice, while inrnD-5 senior midfielder Evelyn Gomez of St. Genevieve repeated her first-teamrnselection from 2017, and junior goalkeeper Nettie Brown of Immaculate Heartrnalso was chosen.

SCHSCArnAll-Star Showcase

EightrnCatholic school boys’ soccer players were among the outstanding seniorsrnselected to play in the annual Southern California High School Soccer CoachesrnAssociation All-Star Showcase, held March 24 at Estancia High School.

ThernD-1 All-Stars featured Santa Margarita’s Mia Roth, Kierstin Flint, KennedyrnShulman and Jessie Roux. On the D-5 team were St. Genevieve’s Isabell Rodriguezrnand Evelyn Gomez, plus Coach Marlon Archey, and the D-6&7 squad includedrnSan Gabriel Mission’s Alyssa Lopez and Natalia Olmos, plus Coach FranciscornLopez.
