A Division 7 title in boys’ water polo last season has helped bump Cathedral High School into Division 5 this season, according to the CIF-Southern Section divisional rankings for 2019.

Servite of Anaheim, on the other hand, remains in Division 3 for 2019, after winning the D-3 championship in 2018.

Divisional rankings are based on regular season and playoff results over the past two seasons, with greater emphasis on 2018. The boys’ water polo season starts Aug. 26 and ends Nov. 2, with playoffs beginning Nov. 5.

The 14 Catholic schools competing in boys’ water polo are grouped as follows:

  • Divisions 1 and 2 (to be separated at playoff time): Damien, Loyola, Mater Dei and Santa Margarita.
  • D-3: Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks and Servite.
  • D-4: J.Serra.
  • D-5: Cathedral, St. Francis and St. John Bosco.
  • D-6: Alemany, Crespi, La Salle and Villanova Prep.
