Boys’ tennis: Five Catholic teams reach second round

Five Catholic teams advanced to the May 3 second round of the CIF-Southern Section Boys’ Tennis Tournament after first round victories May 1.
In Division 1, Loyola defeated Yorba Linda 11-7 in first round play, and will take on San Marino in the second round May 3. Other results:
  • D-2: St. Francis beat Santa Margarita 11-7, and will oppose Dos Pueblos in Round 2.
  • D-3: Mater Dei overwhelmed Mayfair 16-2 in Round 1 and will play Capistrano Valley in Round 2.
  • D-4: Bishop Montgomery edged Western 10-8, advancing to play Hemet in Round 2. In the first round, Milken beat Villanova, and Quartz Hill beat La Salle.
  • D-5: Bishop Amat stopped Geffen Academy 13-5 in Round 1, and will play Heritage in Round 2.
