With shutout quarterfinal victories on May 10, Santa Margarita and St. Anthony advanced to the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Baseball Tournament.

The ninth-seeded Eagles blanked El Segundo 4-0 in Division 2, while the sixth-seeded Saints whitewashed No. 3 Faith Baptist 6-0 in Division 6.

In the May 14 semis, Santa Margarita (24-11) is at Redondo Union (24-9), and St. Anthony (15-12) hosts Rio Hondo Prep (16-7).

Finals are May 18. Santa Margarita (D-1) and Bishop Amat (D-3) were the last local Catholic schools to win CIF-SS baseball titles in 2014.

Four other local Catholic school teams weren’t as successful in their quarterfinal games. Serra was beaten 11-7 by No. 9 Yorba Linda in Division 3; No. 7 Mary Star lost 4-0 to No. 2 Summit (D-4); Salesian was defeated 4-2 by Orange Vista (D-5); and Don Bosco Tech was edged 3-2 by No. 10 Marshall (D-7).
