Doctors, nurses and other staff members at St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC) in Lynwood are completing their final fittings as they prepare to hit the runway on June 19 for the SFMC Foundation’s third annual Luncheon and Fashion Show, which will benefit the facility’s Heart Center and provide heart screenings and medical intervention for uninsured women from the surrounding community.
According to Mary Eileen “Dub” Drees, CEO of the SFMC Foundation, the upcoming event will provide an ideal opportunity for “bringing visibility to what is often a silent killer of so many women…right in our own neighborhoods.” In fact, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, with one in three women dying each year from cardiovascular-related illness or a sudden coronary event.
“Through this event and our ongoing education and awareness efforts, we want individuals and families to start focusing more on heart disease prevention so there is less need for heart disease intervention,” said Drees. “This year’s fashion show is our way of stepping onto the stage as a leader in promoting heart health…for everyone.”
The Luncheon and Fashion Show will be held at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, 200 S. Pine Avenue. Scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., the event will include lunch, a purse auction, and a parade of fashion clothing, with models showing off a variety of men’s and women’s casual, sport and evening attire.
