Sister Alphonsus Egan, a Sister of St. Louis for 75 years, died on November 13, 2015.  She was born in 1919 in Kilkelly, County Mayo, Ireland.  Sister Alphonsus entered religious life in 1940.  She was an elementary teacher both in Ireland and California, including Our Lady of Refuge, Long Beach; St. Bede, La Canada; Nativity, El Monte; St. Joseph, Long Beach; and St. Louis of France, La Puente. 

Sister Alphonsus also served as principal at St. Louis of France, La Puente and St. Robert’s, Sacramento.  She is mourned by the Sisters of St. Louis, Associates, her nephews and family in Ireland and friends.  She was lovingly cared for at Marycrest Manor, Culver City; and in more recent years at Mary Health of the Sick in Newbury Park where she died.  Sister Alphonsus has been buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
