Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes recently announced the appointment of Ryan Edward Alcantara, Ph.D., as the university’s new vice president of student affairs and dean of students, effective July 1.

A recipient of Catholic education in primary and secondary schools, Alcantara was drawn to Marymount California University for its “Catholic traditions and commitment to academic excellence, integrity and respect for human dignity.”

Alcantara has a Ph.D. in public administration from USC; a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Connecticut; and a bachelor’s in psychobiology from U.C. Riverside. With nearly 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, he most recently served as the interim assistant vice chancellor and dean of students at U.C. Riverside, and prior to that he was the associate vice president for student affairs at California State University, Fullerton.

In addition to his new role at Marymount California University, Alcantara is currently an adjunct professor at the USC Rossier School of Education, is an active member in higher education professional associations, and has received numerous awards for his professional accomplishments.
