Los Angeles was the last stop of a U.S. tour of the seven-foot-tall Cross and Marian Icon, which are available for veneration at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Aug. 26-27

Archbishop José H. Gomez celebrated a Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Sunday, August 26 at 3:30 p.m. to welcome the World Youth Day Cross and an Icon of the Virgin Mary, as they made the last stop of a multi-city tour throughout the United States on their way to Panama for World Youth Day 2019. During the Mass, the Archbishop blessed youth preparing for their pilgrimage to Panama in January.

Local young adults and youth with their guardians who are planning to travel to Panama for the event held on January 22-27, 2019 were invited to participate in the Mass at Cathedral, wearing WYD t-shirts. The Mass featured testimonials by two pilgrims.

The Mass was followed by a prayer rally led by the Band WAL on the Cathedral’s Plaza. The Cross and the Marian Icon are available in the Cathedral for public viewing and veneration through Monday, August 27.
