The faithful from across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are invited to remember deceased loved ones by participating in Día de los Muertos (All Souls’ Day) celebrations on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard, and on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles.
Presented by the Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries of the archdiocese, the culturally-rich free festivities combine faith and heritage. Both family-friendly gatherings will begin at 12 p.m. and feature the celebration of Holy Mass, children’s activities, mariachi music, folkloric dancers and traditional Día de Los Muertos altars honoring departed loved ones, special groups or themes (e.g., military veterans, victims of violence).
The Oct. 28 celebration at Santa Clara will have the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and a performance by America’s Got Talent semifinalist Alondra Santos. The Nov. 4 festivities at Calvary will offer Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez as well as a performance by Mexican regional singer Helen Ochoa.
Those interested in creating an altar for display may call Calvary Cemetery at 323-307-4202 or Santa Clara Cemetery at 805-998-7251.
