St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood is hosting a free family health care on Saturday, August 18, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. St. Francis has partnered with Keck School of Medicine of USC, USC Memory and Aging Center, Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center, Alzheimer’s Greater LA, Mexican Consulate, and LBI Media, Inc.

The fair addresses issues affecting the South LA community, including strokes, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Brain health is often overlooked, but it is key to quality of life. The fair highlights the connection between physical health and brain health at every stage of life. 

The event will feature presentations on brain health, diabetes, heart issuses, exercise, and a case study on high rates of Alzheimer’s among people from the Jalisco region of Mexico. Health screenings will be available for children and adults, including blood pressure, height/weight, BMI, thyroid and adult immunizations. 

Speakers include Helena Chui, MD, chair, Department of Neurology, USC, internationally recognized for research in Alzheimer’s and vascular cognitive impairment and Freddi Segal-Gidan, PA, PhD, director, Rancho/USC California Alzheimer’s Disease Center, associate professor, Clinical Neurology, Family Medicine and Gerontology, USC

The event sponsors will also have educational booths on baby wellness, children’s mental and emotional health, healthy heart habits, diabetes prevention and management, stroke prevention, lead poisoning, nutrition and more. 

Food, entertainment, raffles, kids’ crafts and face painting make this a fun day focused on family health and wellness.
