On Feb. 18, more than 60 members of the Young Ladies Institute (YLI) gathered in Ventura to celebrate their community chapter’s 75th anniversary.  The Catholic women’s association works to provide friendship and financial support to those in need.

Mariella Cacdac-Waterson, the community’s Grand President, traveled from Shoreline, Washington, to attend the luncheon. She gave a talk on the history and power of The Memorare Prayer. Cacdac-Waterson also presented nearly 20 members with certificates of appreciation for their 50 years of membership.

The event took place at the Mulcahy Center in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, which was decorated in the Marian colors of blue and white for the occasion.

Founded in San Francisco in 1887, the institute has spread to many areas in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. The work has raised funds for numerous initiatives including disaster relief, leadership training and scholarships for both college and graduate students. Today there are an estimated 8,500 members.
