Cardinal Roger Mahony, a graduate of St. John’s Seminary College and ordained to the priesthood from St. John’s Seminary in 1962, will be among five men honored at the fourth annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner Sept. 25 at the Camarillo institution.Also scheduled to be honored for exceptional dedication to their ministries are the following alumni of the seminary college and/or theologate:—Msgr. Peter Nugent, retiring pastor of St. John Eudes Church, Chatsworth, and like Cardinal Mahony ordained to the priesthood in 1962. He also served as pastor of St. John the Baptist, Baldwin Park, and Santa Clara, Oxnard.—Father Michael McCullough, ordained in 1973 and for most of those years since then the fulltime chaplain to the Los Angeles Police Department, as well as founder of the Desert Refuge for Peace Officers in the Antelope Valley.—Msgr. Patrick Thompson, pastor emeritus of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Church, Lomita, and formerly a Newman Club director and a member of St. John’s faculty. He was ordained in 1960.—Christopher A. Redondo, retired faculty member and Religion Department chair at Chaminade College Preparatory School in West Hills, and a member of St. Peter Claver Church, Simi Valley.The selection of these five brings to 20 the number of honorees since St. John’s first such event in 2008.
