Several Don Bosco Tech students returned to their Rosemead campus for the fall semester after completing rigorous internships that complimented their engineering and technology studies. The students spent their summer break working alongside professionals at the Boeing Company, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Promotional Design Group and California State Los Angeles.
The internships provided the high school students with rare hands-on experience while increasing their exposure to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) professions. The students were selected to participate based on high academic standing, strong communication skills, and excellent problem solving abilities.
“The internship has been an amazing experience,” said senior Jonathan Kaneshiro. He recalled participating in a meeting with Boeing senior executives who were discussing computer programming languages. “I couldn't believe my ears because I understood everything that was discussed,” he said. “I experienced how well Bosco Tech can prepare me in the engineering field. I am loving life — I am truly grateful with this experience!”
Senior Edward Rivera and junior Anthony Figueroa so impressed SHPE staff that the national engineering organization has offered to establish a unique high school student chapter on the Bosco Tech campus.
“We’re extremely proud of these young men and know they made the most of their opportunities this summer,” said principal Xavier Jimenez. “These internship experiences exposed the students to the diverse technology and science-driven professional paths available. We’re very grateful to these respected organizations for partnering with us.”
