On Aug. 2, Archbishop José H. Gomez welcomed 21 new seminarians to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as they begin their journey toward the priesthood at St. John’s Seminary and Queen of Angels Center for Priestly Formation.

Archbishop Gomez gave the seminarians his blessing following a special Mass in their honor at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Downtown Los Angeles. After celebrating Mass in the cathedral’s St. Vibiana Chapel, the archbishop hosted a barbeque at the cathedral residence for all 97 seminarians in the archdiocese. The Serra Club sponsored the event.

On Aug. 12, a total of 11 seminarians from St. John’s were ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacon at the cathedral, including nine men from the Los Angeles Archdiocese and two from the Archdiocese of Kiyinda-Mityana in Uganda.
