Six members of the local Catholic community received the 2019 Cardinal’s Awards for their extensive and distinguished service at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Saturday on March 16.
“The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is blessed in many ways and, for me, each of you is a part of that blessing,” Archbishop José H. Gomez said to the gathering before honoring David and Mario Borgatello, Doreen Dominguez, Colleen Roohan, William Simon Jr., and Paul Tosetti. “We are sharing the joy of Christ and the love of God.”
These notable local Catholics were honored for their work with charities, the elderly, children, and others in need after natural disasters. Proceeds from the event will benefit La Purisima Preschool in Lompoc and St. Patrick Preschool in North Hollywood.
As he accepted his award, David Borgatello said he was reminded of a time 12 years ago when his mother pointed out “a beautiful article in The Tidings about the Cardinal’s Award. … Maybe someday, you and your brother will receive it.”
After David replied that he felt there were many others far more worthy, he said his mother replied, “Hey, don’t underestimate yourself.”
“All I can say now is listen to whatever your mother says,” Borgatello added.
