St. John’s Seminary will present a Thursday night lecture series in 2012 featuring on the intriguing and sometimes collision-prone intersections of science, theology and religion in the search for truth.
Father Jim Clarke, Ph.D., chairman of the Department of Spiritual Theology at Camarillo seminary and faculty coordinator for the series, said the series will be “a great opportunity to hear from and talk with these thought-provoking leaders. When and where did life begin? How are we as humans here and why do we exist? What, if anything, can science offer about God’s existence? What can faith bring to the pursuit of scientific knowledge? These are just a few of the topics our lecturers will be covering.”
“The opportunity to welcome colleagues from other institutions and to provide a forum to welcome the public to discussions of such important issues is a blessing,” added Msgr. Craig Cox, St. John’s rector/president. “We’re looking forward to hearing from our speakers and being challenged by their questions and insights.”

---Jan. 19: “Science, Theology and Religion,” with Janice Daurio, Ph.D., Professor of Philosophy at Moorpark College.
---Feb. 2, 2012 “Astronomy and God,” with John B. Bulman, Ph.D., chairman, Department of Physics, Loyola Marymount University.
---Feb. 16, 2012 “Physics, Creation and the Beginning of Time,” with Jesuit Father Robert J. Spitzer, Ph.D., president, Magis Center of Reason and Faith.
---March 1, 2012 “Quantum Physics, Theology and a New Reality,” with Jesuit Father William Stoeger, Ph.D., coordinator, Science and Theology Programs, Vatican Research Group, University of Arizona.
---March 22, 2012 “Apparitions: Seeing Jesus and Mary in the World,” with Ann Taves, Ph.D., Professor of Religious Studies at UC Santa Barbara.
---April 19: “The Science of Economics and Catholic Social Teaching,” with Andrew Yuengert, Ph.D., Professor of Economics at Pepperdine University.
---May 3: “The Interrelationship Between Theology and Science,” with Father John Brennan, St. John’s Professor of Systematic Theology.
