Daniel K. Schwala, senior vice president at UBS in Los Angeles, has been elected by the St. John’s Seminary board of directors as its new chairman.  “We are very pleased to have Dan’s leadership on our board as we prepare to celebrate our 75th year of educating and forming priests for the people of faith here in California and for dioceses and religious orders around the world,” said Msgr. Craig Cox, rector/president of St. John’s. “His election as chairman recognizes the wise counsel and stellar leadership he’s provided to us at St. John’s in recent years.” 

Schwala, who joined the St. John’s Seminary board in 2010, has nearly 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Before joining UBS he was manager of financial planning at a Getty Oil Company subsidiary and also worked in senior leadership roles at Oppenheimer & Company and Merrill Lynch.  

A member ofthe Knights of St. Gregory, Schwala is a member of the Cardinal's Awards Dinner Committee, the St. Joseph Center annual Voices of Hope Gala Executive Committee, and is involved in various outreach and support groups at St. Monica Church, Santa Monica.
