Bishop Cirilo Flores of San Diego is “alert and in good spirits” after suffering a stroke on the afternoon of April 16, according to a statement released by the diocese. “With the faithful people of God let us pray for Bishop Flores’ speedy and full recovery,” the San Diego diocese’s vicar general Monsignor Steven F. Callahan said April 17. The bishop suffered the stroke in his office at the diocese’s pastoral center. Paramedics took him to the hospital, where he received treatment, Msgr. Callahan said. Bishop Flores, 65, has headed the Diocese of San Diego since September 2013.
