“As disciples of Jesus, we cannot be indifferent or complacent to any human being who is in need,” said Bishop Gerald Wilkerson during his homily at the annual Requiem Mass for the Unborn Jan. 18 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

The evening liturgy, with Archbishop José Gomez presiding, followed the Youth Rally for Life on the Cathedral Plaza and drew an assembly filled with people determined to help support the culture of life. Among the speakers was Tricia Mora of Long Beach, who presented a touching personal testimony about her own first-hand experience in helping her son and his girlfriend choose life.

The liturgy also included the lighting of 220 candles to represent the estimated total number of unborn lives lost due to elective abortions in one typical day across Los Angeles County.
