Created with the vision of uniting Christians through Hollywood, the Arcángel Film Festival will take place July 19 at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.
By connecting filmmakers and artists with their audience, the program is intended to celebrate and support the progress of faith-based films and inspire Christian unity and cooperation in media and mission, say organizers.
“What Christians need to understand is that what happens in Hollywood — and it doesn’t matter where you are in the world now — goes out to the rest of the world,” says Jeff Jordan, Holy Wood Acting Studio instructor and Arcángel speaker.
“So whatever message it is that we are sending is what the rest of the world is receiving. We have so many resources, but we have so much division. If we have one voice, we come together and we’re pooling our resources — imagine the possibilities!”
The Arcángel Film Festival will offer an array of films in diverse genres that vary in Christian theme and purpose. Among the films to be shown:
—“Wild Eyes: The Abby Sunderland Story,” on 16-year-old competitive sailor Abby Sunderland and her attempted solo circumnavigation of the world.
—“40,” the celebrated human rights documentary.
—“God’s Not Dead,” the 2014 theatrical feature, followed by a speaker panel with the film’s writers, Cary Soloman and Chuck Konzelman, and co-producer David A.R. White.
Along with the opportunity to promote unity by coming together in support for Christian media, the event will provide a networking fair, held 1-6 p.m., to offer audience members the chance to learn more about various non-profit service groups and ministries.
Live music begins at 1:30 p.m., with screenings throughout the day. Tickets are available for purchase for the VIP after-party to meet filmmakers and producers.
Participants include Holy Wood Acting Studio, MPower Pictures, Pure Flix Entertainment, Movie to Movement, Family Theater Productions, OASIS- Ending Trafficking, Pro-Life Champions and Myriad Pictures. Sponsors include San Gabriel Mission, HOPE Christian Fellowship, Hope Unlimited Church, SAV.n TV (Salvation Army TV), Right to Life League of Southern California and the Knights of Columbus.
