Peaceful prayer vigils at 10 abortion facilities within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be held Sept. 25 through Nov. 3 by 40 Days for Life, with at least one location in every pastoral region. 40 Days for Life is an ecumenical campaign of prayer and fasting for 40 straight days specifically for an end to abortion. Peaceful prayer takes place in front of designated abortion facilities, generally 7 a.m.-7 p.m.Locations in the archdiocese include the following:—Santa Barbara Region: Planned Parenthood locations at 415 E. Hillcrest Dr., Thousand Oaks Commencement Mass, Sept. 24, 6:30 p.m. at Mission San Buenaventura—San Fernando Region: Planned Parenthood, 533 E. Palmdale Blvd., Palmdale (Kick-off Rally, Sept. 22, 3 p.m., Poncitlan Square Palmdale); Family Planning Associates, 10200 Sepulveda Boulevard, Mission Hills; Planned Parenthood, 7100 Van Nuys Boulevard, Van Nuys.—San Gabriel Region: Family Planning Associates, 1135 S. Sunset Ave., West Covina.—Our Lady of the Angels Region: Her Medical Clinic, 2502 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles; Commencement Mass, Oct. 4, 6 p.m., Immaculate Conception, Los Angeles. —San Pedro Region: Planned Parenthood locations at 7655 Greenleaf Ave., Whittier, and 2690 Pacific Ave., Long Beach; Kick-off Rally, Sept. 27, 7 p.m., St. Joseph High School, Lakewood. Across the country, groups in 306 cities are participating in 40 Days for Life. They have been directly responsible for the closure of 40 abortion facilities since beginning in 2007, have attracted over half a million participants, and have encouraged over 7,500 women to choose life, rather than abortion, for their babies.In a letter of endorsement, Archbishop José Gomez said he recommends “the peaceful, prayerful witness of 40 Days for Life” and encourages “all parishes and Catholics in the Archdiocese to consider participation in 40 Days for Life.”Information for each location, and registration for vigil time slots, can be found at www.40daysforlife.org.
