Eleven of 18 Catholic school teams that began the CIF-Southern Section boys’ volleyball playoffs are still in the title hunt, following first-round action on May 8.

That includes all five Catholic teams in Division 1, with four of the five scoring 3-0 sweeps. The one exception was No. 2 seed Loyola, which prevailed 3-1.

Division 4 co-favorites St. Anthony and La Salle each posted 3-0 wins, as did surging Bishop Montgomery in Division 2. Local Catholic schools remain in contention for four of the five divisional titles.

Second round play is May 10, followed by quarterfinals May 12, semifinals May 16 and finals May 19, and then the SoCal Regionals May 22 through 26. A breakdown of first-round results and second-round matchups:

Division 3: Damien d. Cerritos 3-2; Bolsa Grande d. Paraclete 3-1.
